Romolo Papa (1923-1996) attended early classes in his village of St. Albert. From a very young age, he nurtured a strong passion for drawing; his uncle took him to Ravenna to attend free academy courses in painting, decoration, sculpture, and mosaic. In 1948, the Municipality of Ravenna proposed that the Ravenna mosaicists create the first Mosaicists Group to restore and promote Ravenna's extraordinary artistic heritage. Papa thus participated in significant post-war restoration campaigns and worked on new mosaic works commissioned by public and private entities in Italy and abroad.
