From Alexandria in Egypt, the city in which one of the most ancient libraries in the world once existed and from a workshop run by Egyptian mosaicists in cooperation with the AIMC (International Association of Contemporary Mosaicists), an exhibition will come for RavennaMosaico, financed by the Egyptian Ministry of Culture.

The hand and the mind are accomplices and the results seem unforeseeable and fascinating.
The old tradition of Ravenna is cultivated with great enthusiasm and feeling and bears fruit of great aesthetic quality, especially when the imagination and design open themselves to new contexts (the object, the urban space, the beauty of a jewel). At the same time and in the same workshops, ideas of “breaking away” are formed that, through other concepts and designs, deny that extraordinary technique and experiment with new materials, original methods of working, far from traditional rules and schemes.

On the occasion of the Ravenna Mosaic Festival, as on other occasions in the recent past, it has assumed the role of an exhibition in the full sense of the word.
The exhibition entitled THREE x THREE, which it organised on this occasion, is an accurate survey of the recent history of mosaic art in Ravenna, or more accurately, the “school” of Ravenna.

Correspondence, cost estimates, reports and pictorial-graphic documents of the main restoration campaigns between the late eighteen hundreds and early nineteen hundreds attest to the care given to the conservation of historic buildings and the methods used in the laborious process of making permanent records of the mosaic surfaces by the restorers, in a period when photography was still in its infancy, that would lead to the creation of historic philological restoration.
