The hand and the mind are accomplices and the results seem unforeseeable and fascinating.
The old tradition of Ravenna is cultivated with great enthusiasm and feeling and bears fruit of great aesthetic quality, especially when the imagination and design open themselves to new contexts (the object, the urban space, the beauty of a jewel). At the same time and in the same workshops, ideas of “breaking away” are formed that, through other concepts and designs, deny that extraordinary technique and experiment with new materials, original methods of working, far from traditional rules and schemes.

An invitation aimed at 9 young artists/mosaicists to reflect on the form of the book and creation using mosaic technique, of a ‘book object’ which creates a desirer to look at it but not read, a kind of ‘not book’, a ‘book object’.
Thus it is not a question of a book that becomes a work of art but rather a work of art that suggests a book.

The exhibition entitled THREE x THREE, which it organised on this occasion, is an accurate survey of the recent history of mosaic art in Ravenna, or more accurately, the “school” of Ravenna.

Correspondence, cost estimates, reports and pictorial-graphic documents of the main restoration campaigns between the late eighteen hundreds and early nineteen hundreds attest to the care given to the conservation of historic buildings and the methods used in the laborious process of making permanent records of the mosaic surfaces by the restorers, in a period when photography was still in its infancy, that would lead to the creation of historic philological restoration.
